Take the expedition of a lifetime,
from your classroom desk
Have you ever wanted to take a class field trip, but didn't have
the funds, ability, or resources to actually go?
the funds, ability, or resources to actually go?
With Google Expeditions, you can virtually take your class where ever you plan your lesson to be. Google Expeditions is a virtual reality teaching tool that lets you join immersive virtual trips all over the world. Teachers act as the guide and lead their class-sized group of explorers through collections of 3D images and videos.
How does it work?
You will need to download the Google Expedition App on each device being used (Google Play or Apple Store). Each explorer will need a viewer with phone/itouch and each guide will need a tablet/phone.
Teachers' devices will need connection to wifi to download the app or individual expeditions, but will only need a peer-to-peer wifi network to lead an expedition. The device will act as your main control over the expeditions your students go on. From here, you will be able to direct their view towards different locations, monitor all viewers' locations within the expedition, and guide students to explore particular points within your lesson.
Students will need a viewer with supported device to be able to explore. There are different types of viewers such as the cardboard viewer and the view master viewer pictured to your left. The devices within the viewer need the Google Expedition App and connection to the guide's device through peer-to-peer connection or wifi.
Teachers can download and prepare different expeditions for students to take. Students can explore by pointing and moving around within these expeditions. Teachers can make pin points for information or questions. The possibilities of Google Expedition are endless.
